Privacy Policy

Relay ("Relay," "we," "us," or "our") provides a Discord moderation bot and a website that allows users to learn about and invite the bot to their Discord servers.

Information We Collect

Website information

Our website does not require an account and does not intentionally collect personal information through forms. Our hosting provider may automatically process limited technical information, such as:

  • IP address
  • Browser and device type
  • Pages visited
  • Request timestamps
  • Diagnostic and security logs

The Discord invite button directs you to Discord. Discord's processing of your information is governed by Discord's own Privacy Policy.

Discord bot information

When Relay is installed and used in a Discord server, it may process and store information needed to detect abuse and provide moderation features, including:

  • Discord server, channel, role, and user IDs
  • Server configuration and bot permissions
  • Usernames and basic account or membership signals
  • Join and leave timestamps
  • Account age, role membership, and default-avatar status
  • Message metadata, including timestamps, length, link and invite counts, mention counts, and attachment counts
  • One-way message hashes used to identify repeated messages
  • Moderation alerts, detected risk signals, review decisions, and actions taken by the bot
  • Discord audit-log information associated with relevant channel, role, or permission changes

Relay is designed to analyze moderation signals. It does not intentionally store complete message contents unless explicitly stated in a future feature or required for troubleshooting with server administrators.

How We Use Information

We use this information to:

  • Detect raids, spam, mass mentions, invite abuse, suspicious accounts, and destructive server activity
  • Generate moderation alerts and recommendations
  • Execute actions approved or configured by server administrators
  • Maintain server-specific settings and action records
  • Secure, operate, debug, and improve Relay
  • Prevent misuse of the bot and website

We do not sell personal information or use bot data for advertising.

Legal Basis

Where applicable, we process information because it is necessary to provide Relay, because server administrators have requested its moderation services, because we have a legitimate interest in operating and securing the service, or because consent has been provided.

Discord server administrators are responsible for ensuring their use of Relay complies with applicable laws and for informing their members that moderation tools may process server activity.

Sharing of Information

Information may be processed by service providers necessary to operate Relay, including:

  • Discord, for bot and platform functionality
  • Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, for application and database hosting
  • GitHub Pages, for hosting the landing page
  • Other infrastructure providers added in the future to operate or secure the service

We may also disclose information when legally required, to protect users or the service, or as part of a merger, acquisition, or transfer of the project.

Data Retention

We retain information only for as long as reasonably necessary to provide and secure Relay, maintain moderation and audit records, resolve disputes, or meet legal obligations.

Server administrators may request deletion of their server's stored data. Some limited information may remain temporarily in backups or security logs before being automatically removed.

Data Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect stored information. However, no online service can guarantee absolute security.

Server administrators should grant Relay only the Discord permissions required for the features they enable.

Your Choices and Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information associated with you.

Because Relay primarily identifies Discord resources using numeric IDs, we may need your Discord user ID or server ID to locate relevant records. We may also require reasonable verification before fulfilling a request.

Server owners and administrators can remove Relay from their server at any time. Removing the bot stops future processing from that server but may not immediately delete previously stored records.

Children's Privacy

Relay is not directed to children under 13 or anyone below the minimum age required to use Discord in their country. We do not knowingly collect information from children who are not permitted to use Discord.

International Processing

Information may be processed in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate. Those locations may have different data-protection laws from your jurisdiction.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as Relay evolves. We will post the revised policy on this page and update the "Last updated" date.
