Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Relay website and Discord moderation bot ("Relay" or the "Service"). By accessing the website, inviting Relay to a Discord server, or using Relay, you agree to these Terms.

If you do not agree, do not use Relay.

1. Eligibility and Authority

You must:

  • Meet the minimum age required to use Discord in your country
  • Comply with Discord's Terms of Service and Community Guidelines
  • Have authority to install and configure Relay in the relevant Discord server
  • Have authority to grant Relay its requested permissions

If you install Relay on behalf of an organization or community, you represent that you are authorized to accept these Terms on its behalf.

2. Description of the Service

Relay provides automated and administrator-reviewed Discord moderation features, which may include:

  • Raid and spam detection
  • Suspicious-member scoring
  • Mass-mention and invite-spam detection
  • Destructive-activity or "nuke" detection
  • Moderation alerts and review queues
  • Timeouts, kicks, bans, slowmode, and lockdown actions
  • Settings, activity records, and action audit logs

Features may change, be added, or be removed over time.

3. Automated Moderation

Relay uses automated rules and risk signals. Its detections and recommendations may be incomplete, delayed, inaccurate, or produce false positives or false negatives.

You acknowledge that:

  • Server administrators remain responsible for moderation decisions
  • Relay is not a substitute for human judgment
  • Automated actions may affect legitimate users
  • Discord permissions and role hierarchy may prevent actions from succeeding
  • Lockdown and other moderation actions may temporarily disrupt a server

You are responsible for reviewing Relay's configuration, granting appropriate permissions, and selecting suitable detection sensitivity and action settings.

4. Acceptable Use

You may not use Relay to:

  • Violate applicable laws or Discord's rules
  • Harass, intimidate, discriminate against, or unlawfully monitor users
  • Operate a server that you do not have permission to manage
  • Collect or expose personal information unlawfully
  • Circumvent Discord permissions, security controls, or rate limits
  • Reverse engineer, exploit, disrupt, overload, or attack the Service
  • Use automated requests or multiple accounts to abuse the Service
  • Misrepresent Relay as being operated, endorsed, or controlled by Discord
  • Resell or redistribute Relay without written permission
  • Use Relay to facilitate malware, spam, fraud, or other harmful activity

We may restrict or terminate access when we reasonably believe these Terms have been violated.

5. Discord

Relay is an independent service and is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Discord Inc.

Your use of Discord remains governed by Discord's own terms and policies. Changes to Discord's APIs, permissions, rate limits, or platform rules may affect Relay's availability or functionality.

6. Server Administrator Responsibilities

Server owners and administrators are responsible for:

  • Informing members that automated moderation may process server activity
  • Ensuring their use of Relay complies with applicable law
  • Configuring Relay appropriately for their community
  • Reviewing permissions granted to Relay
  • Protecting access to administrative commands and dashboards
  • Handling appeals or disputes involving moderation decisions
  • Removing Relay if they no longer accept these Terms

Do not grant Relay permissions beyond those reasonably required for the features you use.

7. Privacy

Our collection and use of information are described in the Relay Privacy Policy. By using Relay, you acknowledge that policy.

8. Availability and Changes

Relay may be modified, suspended, interrupted, rate-limited, or discontinued at any time. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, particular response times, permanent storage, or compatibility with every Discord server configuration.

We may deploy updates without advance notice when necessary for security, reliability, or compliance.

9. Fees

Relay is currently offered free of charge unless otherwise stated.

If paid features are introduced, applicable prices and additional terms will be disclosed before you purchase or enable them. We will not charge you without your authorization.

10. Intellectual Property

Relay's software, branding, website, documentation, and original content are owned by Relay's operator or applicable licensors.

These Terms give you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Service as intended. They do not transfer ownership of Relay or its intellectual property to you.

You retain ownership of content and communities you control. You grant us only the rights reasonably necessary to process information and operate Relay.

11. Feedback

If you provide suggestions or feedback, you permit us to use them to improve Relay without compensation or obligation to you.

12. Termination

You may stop using Relay at any time by removing it from your Discord server.

We may suspend or terminate access if:

  • You violate these Terms
  • Your use creates security, legal, or operational risk
  • Discord requires us to restrict access
  • Continuing the Service is no longer technically or economically practical

Sections that logically should survive termination, including disclaimers, limitations of liability, and dispute terms, will remain effective.

13. Disclaimer of Warranties

Relay is provided "as is" and "as available." To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, availability, security, and non-infringement.

We do not guarantee that Relay will detect or prevent every raid, spam event, account compromise, destructive action, or other incident.

14. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Relay and its operator will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost data, revenue, reputation, users, or opportunities arising from use of or inability to use Relay.

Our total liability arising from the Service will not exceed the greater of:

  • The amount you paid us during the 12 months before the claim; or
  • US $50

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so portions of this section may not apply to you.

15. Indemnification

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to defend and indemnify Relay and its operator against claims, losses, liabilities, and reasonable expenses arising from:

  • Your misuse of Relay
  • Your Discord server or moderation decisions
  • Your violation of these Terms or applicable law
  • Your infringement of another person's rights

16. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

Any dispute not resolved informally will be brought in the state or federal courts with jurisdiction in Dallas County, Texas, and you consent to those courts' jurisdiction.

17. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms as Relay evolves. Updated Terms will be posted on this page with a revised "Last updated" date.

Continued use after updated Terms become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
